On Friday, 9th May 2026, MTN Ghana, in collaboration with key stakeholders, conducted a public
Sensitization exercise at the Asesewa Lorry Station. The purpose of the exercise was to educate the
General public on the increasing cases of Mobile Money (MoMo) fraud and the necessary
Preventive measures.
The programmed was led by the District Police Commander, Sup/t B. A. Buxton. In attendance were
Officials from the MTN Asesewa Service Centre, executives of the GPRTU Asesewa Branch, as
Well as market women, drivers, traders, and commuters.
During the sensitization, participants were taken through common Mobile Money fraud tactics,
Including fake “wrong transfer” messages and calls, impersonation of MTN, Vodafone, or AT staff
To obtain PINs and One-Time Passwords (OTPs), SIM swap fraud, fake promotional or lottery
Scams, and fraudulent cash-out requests at MoMo vendor points.
The public was strongly advised to never disclose their MoMo PIN or OTP to anyone. They were
Also encouraged to verify all transactions by checking their wallet balance using *170#.
Additionally, participants were cautioned to disregard unsolicited calls requesting payments for
Prizes or promotions.
Members of the public were urged to report any suspicious activities to MTN through the toll-free
Line 100 or to the nearest Police Station. The District Police Commander assured the public of its
Continued collaboration with telecommunications companies to combat cyber-related crimes
Within the district.
