On 28 April 2026, the Upper Manya Krobo District Assembly (UMKDA) commenced a demolition exercise at the Asesewa Market to make way for the upcoming sod-cutting ceremony for the 24-Hour Economy Market. The ceremony is scheduled for 1 May 2026 and will be led by H.E. John Dramani Mahama.
Following a series of engagements with market women and store owners, affected traders have begun voluntarily removing their structures to facilitate the process. No resistance has been recorded so far.
The District Security Committee (DISEC) and the Divisional Chief, Nene Ofei Tagbadja, are expected to visit the site to assess the progress of the clearance. The situation remains calm and under close monitoring
The situation at the market remains calm and is being closely monitored by the relevant authorities as preparations continue for the official launch of the project.
